Is an electronic signature legal in South Africa?

For most everyday documents, yes. Under the ECT Act, a signature isn't invalid just because it's electronic, and one that identifies the person and shows they agreed is valid where you haven't agreed on a specific type.

Some documents can't be signed this way: wills, agreements to buy or sell land, leases of land longer than 20 years, and bills of exchange. Where a law itself demands a signature, an advanced electronic signature is needed, which SignSure doesn't provide.

What does the other person need?

An email address or a cellphone number. They open a link and sign in their browser. No account, no app, no printer. If you want extra certainty about who is signing, ask for a one-time code by SMS or email, or a PIN you share with them.

How do I prove it was signed?

Every step is recorded: when it was sent, delivered, opened, verified and signed. When everyone has signed, you get the signed PDF and a completion certificate listing those steps, with a digital fingerprint of each document so any later change shows.

    Upload your document

    Drop in a PDF. SignSure finds its form fields for you to check, and you place signature, initials, date and text boxes where they're needed.

  2. 02

    Add who signs, and in what order

    Everyone at once, or one after another: the next person only gets the link once the previous one is done.

  3. 03

    They verify and sign

    By email link, or with a one-time code or PIN first if you want to be sure who's signing.

  4. 04

    Everyone gets the signed copy

    The signed PDF comes with a certificate of every step and a SHA-256 fingerprint of each document.

What it costs

The same work, priced on every plan

Many providers charge per user, and some cap how many requests you can send. SignSure charges per signing request, however many people sign it, and keeps sending past your plan's limit at a per-request rate. Set your own numbers, or start from an example.
